Anderson Cooper

Here's my take on Anderson Cooper. He's the first in a quick series of news people. Up next, Brian Williams. It's fun to do celebrities that others seldom caricature. For a closer look, click on the image.

Michelle Obama

As the election draws closer, it's fun to take on Washington. As promised, here's Mrs. Obama and all things Michelle. It was great fun to put this together and hope you enjoy this lighthearted look at our First Lady. Click on the image for a closer look.

Paul Ryan

As we race towards the election, it felt like a ripe time to poke fun at both the left and the right. First up, Paul Ryan. I couldn't resist those big puppy dog eyes. I promise to be an equal opportunity offender, so coming up next, Michelle Obama. Hope this helps lighten these tense times we live in.

La Jolla Library

This is a commissioned piece I did recently for the La Jolla Library. One of their librarians retired and the board wanted to pay homage to her. Yesterday they presented this to her and I heard nothing but good reports. A loving tribute to a lovely lady.

A BIG SHOUT OUT TO MY BIGGEST COLLECTOR

I’ve only been selling my art since January of this year, 2012, but I’d like to shout out a big, “THANK YOU!!!” to Randall Brown. He has now collected 4 of my Limited Edition Giclees and pulls into the lead of those who are collecting. His support is greatly appreciated.

Randy, as I am privileged to call him, attended my first show at the La Jolla Art Association “Fresh Talent” show back in March, 2012. He became a fan of my work at that point and purchased a Limited Edition Canvas Giclee of “Hurricane Dame Edna.” Since then he has purchased “Life’s Little Disappointments,” “That Moment of Regret” and “Anger Management.”

What makes me happy is knowing that collecting art makes Randy happy. It’s fun to acquire new pieces and to see a collection grow. It brings me great joy knowing that when Randy sees one of my works of art, a smile appears on his face.

Are you collecting art? It’s never too late. Every collector started with a first piece. So join Randy today and start collecting! I get a thrill every time Randy contacts me to add to his collection.

Nothing would make me happier than to hear from you, too. Contact me!

The Last Thing The Spider Ever Saw

My newest painting, oil on dibond aluminum, 30"x40"    Inspired by my friend Caroline who confessed to being afraid of spiders. I decided to turn the tables and show how frightening we must be to spiders. Reproductions are available upon request.

First Place in the San Diego Fair!!

Last night my oil painting "Salad Daze" won First Place in the San Diego Fair. It was a thrilling evening, and a bit overwhelming for someone so new to the world of painting. The show opens today at the San Diego Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and is in the Turf Club. It's a wonderful show and there is alot of great art on display. Everyone who was juried into the show should be proud. Good work, everyone!

Friends of La Jolla Library

Today was the Artists' Reception at the La Jolla Library for their new show, One Subject Photo Show. All photo images were of the La Jolla Library. I had 3 pieces juried in and at today's opening reception this piece was the first (and so far only) work to sell. It is a surprisingly wonderful show and I encourage everyone in the area to see it. Lovely images. I'll be donating my proceeds to the Friends of La Jolla Library. This is the first Photography Art Show I've ever entered, so I'm delighted that it has been such a positive experience.

A Head Too Crowded

"A Head Too Crowded"   This is my recent self-portrait, a digital painting done in Photoshop. Friends and relatives have suggested that I do a self-portrait, but I've resisted, not wanting to dote. But my final assignment in a recent Digital Painting Class at Mesa College was to do a self-portrait...so I was cornered. In the end, I had great fun. I surrounded myself with actors/characters I've painted over the past 12 months, so I'm in grand company. I was less than flattering to many of these people, so I figured I had to be willing to jab myself, too. It was a fun experience.

First Place Winner

Yesterday the San Diego Portrait Society honored my new painting "The Burger Queen" with First Place. I can't wipe the smile from my face. In a few weeks I'll be attending the conference at the National Portrait Society in Philadelphia and I will be able to hold my head a little higher. Thank you San Diego Portrait Society!

The Burger Queen

This is my newest piece, The Burger Queen. Oil on canvas: 24"x36". This was much fun to create as I had to invent character and put the pieces together in Photoshop. I then painted the composition I created in Photoshop. This is the third piece in a series: "The Ladies Who Lunch". It will debut at the Artwalk San Diego on April 28 and 29. Come visit us at booth #594 between Date and State Streets in Little Italy, downtown San Diego.

Hurricane Edna

Ah, Dame Edna. One of my favorite comediennes. Her one man show ranks as one of the funniest ever on Broadway. Last summer, as I was developing sketches of the Dame, Hurricane Irene was making the news. And that's when the premise hit me: What if Dame Edna commissioned me to paint her official portrait? She wanted it to be lovely, perfect in every way for all her "Possums to relish her superstardom!" But at the last minute a hurricane happens and that's when I caught her expression. To me it's the perfect comedic moment for Dame Edna and it captures her hilarious attitude. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it.

Fargo: the painting

"Fargo" was one of my favorite movies. When I worked in television, I was often asked by the studios to take a movie and make it into a television series. Sometimes a book becomes a movie and then a television series. Media is always morphing into another media. So I decided to take the movie "Fargo" and see if I could make it into a painting and still have the viewer relive the experience in a new way. In the movie, Margie's husband, Norm, was commissioned to create a painting for an upcoming 3 cent stamp. I used his painting as a springboard for this painting. All the major characters are now featured on 3 cent stamps. And, let's face it, the foot became the most memorable character in the movie. Had to include it, too! My hope is that it's a warm homage to a cold and brutal movie. You can click on the image to enlarge it

Preparing for Lunch

This is my latest painting, part of my series, "Ladies Who Lunch." This is "Preparing for Lunch." Oh, yeah, don't we all prep for lunch this way???"

Salad Daze

This is my latest painting, "Salad Daze" - first in a series of paintings entitled: The Ladies Who Lunch. I'm afraid I can relate to this painting because for me, it's all about the cake. My achilles heel. Enjoy!
